Sam & Max Season 2 Preview, Continued
On their favorite parts of Season 1:
Purcell: Any scene with the car I really enjoyed. I was just so pleased with the way [the 1960 DeSoto Adventurer] looked and the way it turned out in the game.
Grossman: Seeing a giant statue of Abraham Lincoln going insane and rampaging through Washington, D.C. [in the fourth episode titled "Abe Lincoln Must Die!].
On LucasArts and the decision to cancel Sam & Max: Freelance Police
Purcell: I never had a chance to react too strongly to [the cancellation] because there was such a backlash from the fans that happened so suddenly. So in a strange sense, it was gratifying. But no, I never did hear from LucasArts executives or anybody there as to why it was cancelled. There was no explanation.
Grossman: I wasn't there at the time, but it obviously had a huge impact [Grossman left LucasArts in 1994 after achieving success with the Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2 and later joined the Sam & Max team at Telltale].

Sam & Max Freelance police first debuted as a comic book in 1987, and the popular PC game Sam & Max Hit the Road arrived in 1993.
On changes and new features for Season 2:
Grossman: We're going to spend more time developing some of the side characters. The controls for driving will be a little more complex, too. And Sam can run in Season 2.
Purcell: Can Sam put his hands in his pockets, like in the trailer?
Grossman: That's a good question.
Purcell: Because that made me excited when I saw that. I know it's such a simple thing, but watching him do obscure little things like putting his hands in his pockets is really interesting. I think it's reflective of his character [Sam is usually the mild-mannered, observant one of the pair].
Grossman: We can't talk too much about what will be in Season 2, but there will be a lot of details and elements that you won't notice immediately.
On Season 2's release and potential console version of the series:
Grossman: The number of episodes for Season 2 hasn't been determined yet, but we're going to release the episodes as timed exclusives on GameTap again. Steam has been very good for us but we're not exactly sure how Season 2 is going to be released beyond GameTap. We're definitely interested in the consoles and we're looking at it very closely, but we haven't announced any plans yet.
On what Sam & Max Season 1's success means for them:
Grossman: We're definitely getting a lot more calls. People are interested in working with us, which is good.
Purcell: I think it just means more work for me and that I'm always supposed to be doing something for somebody [laughs].

A glimpse of Sam & Max's new look office for Season 2.
