Meet The Dominating Divas Clan

Sitting down with Chickie, Kiki Kat, Alfta and Fiesty Fox from Dominating Divas was, at first, like having tea and apple pie in a warm kitchen with pink gingham curtains flying in the fall breeze. The gallery at the website has a homelike feel, with wedding photos and pictures of beloved pets. It all seemed much more domestic than dominating. After seeing their site, you would expect these women to be trading recipes in their free time. You'd be quite mistaken.

Then Chickie started to talk about gaming. You wouldn't imagine these ladies playing DOOM 3 and their other favorite top first person shooters (FPSes) if you met them at the corner grocery store or at the local PTA meeting.

The Canadian-based all-female gaming clan is one that stresses friendship and women's bonding. The goal is enjoyment, hijinx and fun; winning and competition are second to camaraderie. The Dominating Divas are a perfect example of women game players that bust all the stereotypes, and I was happy to get to learn more from their founding member and the clan girls.

Geek Woman: Tell us a little more about how your clan got started?

Miss Chickie: Basically, one day I decided that I wanted to start playing with more female gamers. I had my list of the women that I played with, and went through that list and asked each of them if they'd be interested in starting up a clan. Most said yes. My closest female XBOX gamer, Lady Amberjack, loved the whole Divas idea, and so did I. We talked it through with everyone and thought "The Dominating Divas" suited each and every one of us just fine.

We spread the word about us on a few forums that we frequented, and in-game anytime we'd meet up with cool females. Since we all have many buds on Live, they spread the word for us as well. We started out on February 5th, 2004.

We are not a big clan, but a close one. For myself, I would rather be a dozen than a thousand and not know each and every one of the ladies as well as I do now.
