9. Change The Background Without Changing The Month

Under normal circumstances, the background of the PSP is controlled by the month. A nifty feature, yes, but it's sometimes nice to have a little more control over it. PSP-Hacks has a nice little program called PSPersonalize that allows you to change the background of your PSP to whatever you want, and has over 1,000 backgrounds available for download.

8. Read Magazines On It

Yes, you read that correctly. PSP Magazines has snippets of popular magazines and Website publications available for download. PC World, Mac Addict, independent publications and more offer related content free of charge.

7. Use It As A War-driving Device

This is something you can do even out of the box, which hardly requires a modification to your memory stick or a trip to the store. From the 'Settings' menu under the main menu, just select 'Network Settings', then 'Infrastructure Mode'. From there, click on 'New Connection', accept the default name (we're not looking to set up a connection here, only sniff out active wireless access points around us), and then click on 'Scan' when prompted to enter the name of the access point. A list of access points should then appear. While this is the limit to the PSP's current war-driving capabilities, the PSP hacking community is very resourceful, so keep your eyes peeled for community-developed war-driving tools.

6. Surf The Web With It

The game Wipeout Pure includes a built-in web browser that only allows you to access the Wipeout home page. However, a few enterprising folks have figured out what makes this browser tick, and have created sites of their own to spoof this home page and to allow any Website to be accessed. Riding the Clutch has info on how to set this up, in addition to a portal to allow you to access sites like Google and Slashdot.
