The Bleak Future Of Dityatky

The Bleak Future Of Dityatky

Ushered into a dimly lit room at the top of a towering hotel, I was allowed to glimpse into the future of the Ukraine in 2012. What I saw was dark and bleak indeed. The view was of an area 128 km northwest of Kiev called "Dityatky" by the Russian Military. Our guide to this bleak future was a Mr. Oleg Yavorsky, who is no stranger to this future of Chernobyl. His development team, GSC Gameworld has been crafting it for some time.

30 km of destroyed land - that's your playground.

His experience with the zone gets us around the military cordons meant to "protect" the surrounding populace. But Oleg hints that there is as much desire to conceal here as there is to protect, whispering to us the dark history of Chernobyl that had not unfolded yet. He explained that after the first explosion in 1986, there was talk of it being the cover up of genetic experiments gone wrong. Others said that the U.S. destroyed it after they had learned that antennas within the domes where broadcasting psychoactive waves towards America. In 2006 there was a second unexplained explosion, and the military moved into secure the perimeter and bar entry.

Large Corporations, knowing that you only protect what is valuable, have hired local mercenaries to enter this dangerous zone and search for the answers to the riddle that is Chernobyl. Oleg allowed me to become one of the Stalkers (the name adopted by the mercenary explorers) and experience the world first hand.
